The cottages are only 6 miles from the picturesque village of Luss and world famous Loch Lomond Golf Courses. In Balloch (3 miles) you will find the shops, cafes, restaurants and bars and located within the tourism development of Loch Lomond Shores there are;

  • cycles and canoes rental
  • boat trips on the Loch.
  • a  farmers market twice a month selling a wide range of local produce.
  • The Maid of The Loch paddle steamer
  • Public slipway for launching of private boats

The breathtaking scenery of the surrounding 720 square miles of National Park that makes this place so special, and Loch Lomond itself is one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland.

Cycling

We have some cycles which may borrowed (on an as available basis and at the borrowers risk). All we ask in return is that you make a donation (£1) towards a number of local bodies which work to preserve and enhance the environment. We will match the donation.

The Gardeners Cottages are adjacent to the west Loch Lomond cycleway which starts at Balloch and extends 18 miles up the Lochside as far as Tarbet. At Arden there is a spur from this route which takes you off to Helensburgh. There are many other places to cycle in the area which offer safe family outings, such as the route around Loch Katrine and in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. We will be happy to advise on routes.

Walking

Around Loch Lomond you are never far from many of Scotland's highest mountains. There are several Munros nearby (mountains above 3000 feet) and walks range from challenging hikes over rugged peaks to easier, yet still demanding walks up well trodden paths of the most accessible peaks. Scotland's most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond, is one of the country's most popular climbs. But you don't have to climb the mountains to enjoy the spectacular scenery. We have information which we can provide you on Lochside and gentle hill walks.

Highland Games

There are a number of traditional Highland Games events held in the area during June and July. These games are:-

  • Helensburgh & Lomond Highland Games
  • Stirling Highland Games
  • Balloch (Loch Lomond) Highland Games
  • Rosmeath & Clynder Highland Games
  • Inveraray Traditional Highland Games
  • Luss (Loch Lomomond) Highland Gathering

A full listing of Highland Games throughout Scotland can be found on the web.
